Mountune Racing and Team Aon triumphant at Oulton Park with LPG engine power
Mountune Racing celebrated another successful weekend at Oulton Park in the British Touring Car Championship.
The LPG engine in the Mountune Racing powered Team Aon Ford Focus ST recorded the third consecutive pole of the season, followed the by the team’s third race win this year.
The weekend started off superbly, with Tom Onslow-Cole securing the team’s third consecutive pole position on Saturday afternoon. Success continued on Sunday with Onslow-Cole leading from the lights to the chequered flag to record his second win of the season during Sunday’s first race followed with a third place finish in race two.
Running lighter in race three, Tom Chilton fought impressively through the field to take the lead. The 25-year-old was unable to hold on to it however and eventually finished in fourth place, ahead of team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole in fifth. Onslow-Cole was awarded the Cliff Johnson Trophy for scoring the most points during the weekend, in memory of Team Principal Cliff Johnson who passed away a few days ago.
The Mountune Racing Ford Focus LPG 2-litre Duratec engine is an evolution of the engine that the team used successfully in the latter half of the 2009 season. Mountune Racing has been working steadily since the end of 2009, developing and refining the new race engine, working closely with both Team Aon and the team’s new fuel supplier Calor and their LPG injection hardware colleagues at Prins in order to develop a competitive race engine fuelled by LPG. The PG injection system and turbocharger complete the major changes from the 2009 spec engine.
