Mountune Racing powers Team Aon to first victory with LPG engine
Mountune Racing and Team Aon record historic first win with an LPG engine in the BTCC
Mountune Racing celebrated an historic race weekend at Brands Hatch with the first British Touring Championship win for an ultra low emissions LPG powered engine in the Mountune Racing powered Team Aon Ford Focus ST. The win also marked Ford’s return to the BTCC podium’s top step for the first time in nearly a decade.
The weekend started off superbly, with Tom Chilton once again securing pole position on Saturday afternoon for the second week in a row. Success continued on Sunday with wins for both Team Aon drivers, Tom Chilton and Tom Onslow-Cole, in the first and second races of the day.
Mountune Racing has been working steadily since the end of 2009, developing and refining the new race engine, working closely with both Team Aon and the team’s new fuel supplier Calor and their LPG injection hardware colleagues at Prins in order to develop a competitive race engine fuelled by LPG. The Mountune Racing Ford Focus LPG 2 litre Duratec engine is an evolution of the engine that the team used successfully in the latter half of the 2009 season. The LPG injection system and turbocharger complete the major changes from the 2009 spec engine.
Roger Allen, General Manager at Mountune Racing commented, “We are so pleased that we have been able to contribute towards greener motorsport by the development of a race-winning engine fuelled by LPG. From the beginning of the project we were confident that the engine would add to the competitive package for the team and this has now been confirmed. We are looking forward to continued success working with both Team Aon and Calor and building upon this weekend’s great results.”
The next round of the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship will be held at Oulton Park 5-6 June, 2010.
